On Saturday, March 28, 2020, Vivian Walker Darrington completed her mission on this earth and returned to our Father in Heaven. Her mission started May 11, 1928, as the last of eight children born to John Orrin and Etta Vera Walker. Her father was a farmer and it was on this farm in Pella, Idaho that Vivian developed her love of the outdoors and horses. She attended Brigham Young University for a time after World War II where she got to shake President George Albert Smith’s hand and take religion classes from Hugh B. Brown. In December of 1951, she received a calling from President David O. McKay to serve in the Western Canadian Mission. During her mission, she was able to enjoy Sunday school lessons taught by her old BYU religion teacher, Hugh B. Brown.
Vivian’s first love was the gospel of Jesus Christ. She was grateful for the blessings she received while here on earth. She married Keith Olsen Darrington on April 24, 1958, in the Idaho Falls Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They made their life in the Elba valley where she served as Postmaster for many years. Keith and Vivian raised Registered Polled Herefords and the hay and grain they needed. It wasn’t an easy life, but she would tell you it was a good life. They were blessed with three daughters: Annalee, Laurie, and Penny. Life was good and she continued to serve her Lord in her callings in Primary, Relief Society, the church library and other ways she could find.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith; her parents, John and Etta Vera; her brothers and sisters, Winona, Fay, Owen, Murray, Gordon, and Wyman. She is survived by her sister, Maxine Wheaton; her children, Annalee and Laurie Darrington, and Penny (Daryl) Monson; and her grandchildren, Lacey and Jarod Monson.
She loved the song “My Heavenly Father Loves Me” by Clara W. McMaster and wrote another verse for it that bears her testimony: He gave us the gospel of Jesus Christ with apostles, prophets true. He gave us the scriptures to help guide us and return to Him again. He gave us our families, parents, friends. I thank Him reverently For the plan of salvation, of which I’m apart. Yes, I know Heavenly Father loves me.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private immediate-family graveside service will be held at Grand View Cemetery in Elba.
