HAZELTON – Tyler Jay Udy, a 33-year-old resident of Rigby and formerly of Hazelton, died Tuesday, March 20, 2018.
Tyler was born April 23, 1984, to Richard Matthias “Matt” and Brenda Navon Gardner Udy. Tyler grew up in Hazelton and, from a young age, was known as “Smiler Tyler” for his infectious and constant smile. He went to Valley School and participated in basketball and Cub Scouts while in elementary. He later participated in Boy Scouts, camp outs, and other church youth activities. When he was 19, he completed a service mission at Deseret Industries in Twin Falls. After his mission he was ready to spread his wings and move away from home. Tyler moved to Rigby to live with Laural and Jeff Trimble, who became his second family. He loved it so much that it didn’t take long for him to call it home.
Tyler kept busy with attending the Adventure Center, Developmental Workshop, and later, Journeys. He loved participating in Special Olympics, Special Primary, and many other activities he was able to do with his countless friends and leaders. When asked how he was doing, Tyler would always respond with, “Things are awesome!” He was known for this phrase and his enveloping hugs. It felt like he was hugging your soul.
He is survived by his parents, Matt and Brenda Udy of Hazelton; siblings, Jacob (Rachel) Udy of Rupert, Deanna (Bryce) Campbell of Twin Falls, Christopher (Kendra) Udy of Jerome, and Dallin Udy and Emily Udy, both of Hazelton; his nieces and nephews, Alieah, Maciah, Austin, Jataunah, Karson, Brody, Gannon, Claire, Conner, Eli and Micah.
Tyler was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Orville and Barbara Udy; maternal grandparents, Rex and Leah Gardner; sisters, Aleah and Navon; and one niece, Samantha Udy.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 26, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Emerson 2nd Ward, 127 S. 950 W., of Paul, with Bishop Chet Jeppesen officiating. Burial will be in Hazelton Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday, March 25, at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Monday, preceding the service at the church.
Our family expresses heartfelt thanks to all of Tyler’s many friends, those at the Adventure Center, D.W.I., Journeys, Special Olympics, Special Primary, Five Guys in Idaho Falls, and the many other friends who influenced his life. You all helped make his life AWESOME!
