Thomas Patrick Hoy

Rupert – Thomas Patrick Hoy, 75, passed away Monday, May 20, 2019, at his home in Rupert, Idaho. He was born November 27, 1943, in Reno, Nevada to Ralph A and Lola Oxborrow Hoy.

He was born into a family of two older brothers, Richard (Dick) and David, and a little sister, Janice. He grew up in Sparks, Nevada and graduated from Sparks High School. As a child, he loved exploring the large Sparks train yards and spending time with his black lab, Flipper, out shooting ducks.

He attended college at the University of Nevada, Ricks College (BYUI), and graduated from Brigham Young University in 1969. While at BYU, he met Joan Fisher from Rexburg, Idaho and they were married in the Idaho Falls Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1967. During their married life, they lived in several places: Nevada, Utah, California, and eventually back to Idaho where they settled in Rupert. He worked at several jobs during his life, primarily as an insurance/real estate agent and Ace Hardware in Burley, Idaho. He loved tinkering with old radios and motors and could never throw away an old one because it would surely have a use some day.

He and Joan had six children, Julie Christensen (Tyler), Cynthia Jenkins, (Chris), Kimberly Johnson (Steve), Christopher (Sylvia Graff), Jonathan (Kristy Pierce), and Erin Hobbs (Jared). He loved his family very much. They are the proud grandparents of twenty-six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2010. They traveled to Utah for three years to participate in a clinical trial which was disbanded as ineffective and in time the Alzheimer’s began to take its toll. He also had diabetes 2 which in the end resulted in his death.

The family is so grateful for the kind and loving care of Kay from Intermountain Care Hospice, the members of the Rupert Fourth Ward, and the help given them by Hansen Mortuary.
