Sue Jane Angus Child passed away peacefully in her sleep during the early morning hours of March 27, 2024. She was born on the island of Oahu, Hawaii on July 3, 1936 while her parents were stationed there. She is the oldest of three girls born to Lieutenant Colonel Alexander G. Angus and Edith M. Skinner. With her dad in the Army, she had the opportunity to live in several places around the country and she eventually settled down in Ogden, Utah. Right after her high school graduation, she started working as a cashier at the Safeway store. That’s when she met a nice young man named Dale that was fresh out of the Army and home from serving in Germany. Their first date was to “Gone With the Wind” and she didn’t mind going even though Clark Gable was her least favorite actor. After that, working at Safeway was a pleasure and Dale was always ready and willing to be the box boy for Sue. Sue was baptized by Dale into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Dec. 4, 1954. They were married later that month on December 29, 1954 and they were later sealed on June 29, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple. She supported Dale as he attended school and graduated in higher accounting and business administration. They lived in Twin Falls for a few years before moving to Rupert in 1967. They eventually settled on a beautiful 160 acre farm where they were able to raise their 6 children and teach them the importance of hard work. Sue loved the farm and the huge space for her garden, orchard, and flowers. She loved getting up early and spending time in her raspberry patch and teaching each of the kids how to make apple sauce, juice the grapes, snap the beans, and the importance of canning. Sue loved going camping with the family and she always had a pack of hotdogs ready just in case the fishin’ was bad. The last few years she has been devoted to her diverse flock of birds that have enjoyed her patronage and to any wayward cat that has needed a meal and some love. Sue was always active in serving the community through the church and in other ways. She was active in the Relief Society and she made countless meals for those in need. She was able to serve missions with Dale in both Nigeria, West Africa and Ames, Iowa. She was a very talented artist and she worked as a volunteer for years at the fairgrounds. She and Dale played a part in the restoration of the Wilson Theater. Sue made countless baby quilts and found joy in doing humanitarian and genealogical work. Sue loved her country and was a vocal supporter of our freedoms. In 1981, she won an essay contest on the subject of “What the American Flag Means to Me.” It was read to the US Senate and added to the official Congressional Record. In recognition of her essay, she was awarded an American flag that was flown over the United States Capitol Building. Sue is survived by her sister Sandy Pack of Las Vegas, her children, Michael (Christa) Child of Rupert, Todd and Lynette Williams of Firth, Debra Brooks of Boise, Steve Child of Filer, Jane (Todd) Wall of Rupert, Daniel (Teresa) Child of Kimberly, 62 grandchildren, 90 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her eternal companion Dale, her sister Barbara, her daughter Nancy, and her granddaughter Embyr Campbell. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the Rupert Stake Center. There will also be a viewing on Friday, March 29, 2024 at Hansen Mortuary from 6 to 8 p.m. and also one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Burial will take place in the Rupert Cemetery following the funeral service. We would like to recognize and give a special thanks to Todd and Jane Wall for their dedicated service to Sue. Thanks for taking care of mom! Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hansen Mortuary.
