BURLEY– Shirley Dayley Crafton, age 78, of Burley, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014, in Tucson, Ariz., surrounded by family and friends.
She was born on Sept. 23, 1935, in Coaldale, Alberta, Canada, the daughter of LeRoy Dayley and Florence Myrtle Hindmarsh Dayley. Her family moved to Burley in 1937 and she lived there for the next 74 years before moving to Tucson to spend her last years near her son. She attended Miller School and Burley High School, graduating from there in 1953. She married Harry William Taylor Jr. in 1955. They had three children before divorcing. She married Ronald Crafton in 1967. They were married until Ron passed away in 1994.
Shirley worked at the J.R. Simplot Company for 26 years, retiring in 1998. She enjoyed family and had a wonderful relationship with her own mother. They were together almost every day until her mother’s death in 1973. She was always supportive of her children, encouraging them to be honest, work hard, and treat people right. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Nevada to play the slot machines. She enjoyed country music and Elvis. She loved being with people and was a loving daughter, wife, mother, friend, and neighbor.
She is survived by her daughter, DeAnna; her youngest son, Harry; grandchildren; great- grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ron; eldest son, Mike; and two grandsons.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Karen’s Assisted Living, an assisted living facility in Tucson, that cares for people with dementia. Our mother could not have received more professional and loving care then she did from the nurses and staff there.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley. Burial will follow at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Burley.
