Shaun Murray Woodhouse

BURLEY – Shaun Murray Woodhouse, a 51-year-old resident of Burley, died Thursday, March 22, 2018.

He was born to Vaughn and Anita Thurman Woodhouse on November 8, 1966, in Burley, Idaho. He attended elementary school and junior high in Oakley, and graduated from high school in Burley.

He grew up on a farm and was active in Boy Scouts. He loved camping and hiking and participated in several fifty-mile hikes. He also loved four-wheelers. He devoted many weekends to exploring area trails and mountains.

Shaun attended both Idaho State University and the College of Southern Idaho, and he eventually began working with his father, Vaughn Woodhouse, at Middle Mountain Land & Produce, a potato-packing shed in Burley. He was known as a very hard worker and for nineteen years kept the delivery bays and cleaning equipment well maintained.

While working at Middle Mountain, Shaun had frequent opportunities to visit Farmer’s Corner in Burley to deliver potatoes, pickup snacks, and talk to a young woman in the deli department named DeAnna Bench. DeAnna would regularly speak on the Charlie and Penny in the Morning show on the KKAT country radio station to alert listeners to the store’s daily specials. During one of their radio interviews with DeAnna, Charlie and Penny learned that DeAnna took a fancy to Shaun. After several weeks of on-air promptings by Charlie and Penny (and large numbers of the radio station’s listeners), Shaun gathered the courage to ask Deanna out. The progress of their romance became a daily topic on the radio show. Shaun and DeAnna were married on April 18, 1998, and settled in Burley, Idaho.

In 2002, Shaun began working for his father-in-law, Ron Bench, at Ron Bench Construction. He loved building things. He had grown up tinkering in the workshop of his grandfather, William Arval Bower, and the construction industry gave him an outlet to express his gifts (as did his house, his backyard, his mother’s house and backyard, and his family’s, friends’, and neighbors’ houses and backyards). He was a true D.I.Y. guy and was never one to sit around doing nothing. He always had a project to work on. He will be long remembered by those who love him by the works of his hands he left behind.

While working at Ron Bench Construction, he became a well-known prankster. One of his favorite jokes was to put rocks in his coworker’s toolboxes. He was so sneaky that he was never caught. He was fun to be around and brought humor to an often difficult job.

Shaun was a devoted uncle to his numerous nieces and nephews. He remembered their birthdays and attended many of their school activities. He also loved dogs, and they loved him. When Shaun arrived in a room, dogs would immediately abandon whoever was petting them and run to Shaun. They knew who was their best friend.

Shaun is survived by his wife, DeAnna; his parents, Vaughn and Anita Woodhouse of Oakley; his siblings, Michael (and Grazyna) Woodhouse of Boise, Scott (and Andrea) Woodhouse of Oakton, Virginia, and Jennifer (and Ryan) Hadley of Preston; his parents-in-law, Ron and Carol Bench of Burley; seventeen nieces and nephews; and his treasured friend, Steve (and Laurie) Duff.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 27, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Burley Stake Center, 2050 Normal Ave., in Burley. Burial will be in Basin Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, March 26, at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Tuesday prior to the service at the church.
