RUPERT – Ruth Marian Webb, age 87, of Rupert, passed away on Monday, March 26, 2012.
Ruth was born on June 6, 1924, in Emmett, Idaho, the middle child of five children born to Deles and Lola Faye (Marshall) Van Zante. She attended schools in Filer and Castleford, graduating in 1942. She married her high school sweetheart, Donald “Bud” Webb on Feb. 6, 1943, in Roswell, New Mexico. They moved to Jerome after he got out of the service and owned a car business, Modern Auto Company, where he sold new and used cars. They later homesteaded a farm in the Kasota area with their four children.
Ruth was a newspaper reporter for the Minidoka County News for several years, and was active in all community affairs – taking special interest in P.T.A., Scouting and 4-H, which involved her children. She enjoyed accompanying them on 4-H camping trips and cheerleading conventions. She also enjoyed bowling in the Thursday afternoon “Housewife League” with several of her Kasota neighbors.
Ruth was a charter member of the Kasota Sage Hen Club and took club pictures of the club events each month and was in charge of the scrapbook for several years.
She later divorced and worked in Burley as a receptionist and clerk until health problems forced her to retire. In 1987, she moved to the Rupert Sunset Manor where she enjoyed her close neighbors and friends.
Ruth was a member of the Paul Baptist Church and enjoyed the monthly “Ruth and Naomi” potluck and fellowship meetings. She always had a reading or funny joke to share with all. Ruth was a friend to many but was happiest being with her family attending school and sporting events and church activities with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren (always having a camera in hand). Ruth enjoyed fixing photo albums, poetry, gardening, attending plays and concerts, and family reunions.
She is survived by her three daughters, Dixie Schenk, and Dianne (Brad) Neibaur all of Rupert, and Donna (Roy) Mansveld of LaPine, Oregon; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a very dear school friend, Irene Hughes (they have been close friends for 75 years and have never had an argument).
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Polly Van Zante; three brothers, Raymond, Roy and John Van Zante; one sister, Ruby Trammer; her husband, Donald “Bud” Webb; a son, Jerry Webb; an infant daughter, Sherri Webb; her son-in-law, Jerry Schenk; and her special in-laws, Doyle and Lula Webb.
Mom always said, “I’m not rich or famous, but I do have priceless children, grandchildren, and greats!”
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 2, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, with Pastor Warren Rachele officiating. Burial will be in the Rupert Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday, April 1, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Monday at the Rasmussen Funeral Home.
