HEYBURN – Ruby Fisher Braegger, age 91, of Heyburn, passed away on Friday, July 5, 2013, at the River Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in Twin Falls.
Ruby was born on May 12, 1922, in Poplar, Idaho, the fifth of nine children born to Charles Hiles and Esther Carpenter Fisher.
Her parents moved to a farm in Rigby when she was small. She went to school there and talked about her dad pulling the school bus with a team of horses. She graduated from Rigby High School where she met her future husband, Victor Richardson Braegger. They were married on Jan. 24, 1942, in Rigby. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Idaho LDS Temple.
Ruby remained in Rigby while Victor served our country during World War II and awaited the birth of their first son, Victor Blair. After Victor returned from the war, he went to barber school in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were joined by another son, Rocky F., in 1949, and a daughter, Jill, in 1953, while living in Rigby. They moved to Ammon where Victor worked for Clark Concrete until drawing a farm on the North Side Homestead Pumping Project north of Rupert in 1954. They moved their family to the newly obtained ground in a small travel trailer where they lived while he cleared the land and built a home. They were living on the farm when their fourth child, a son, Lynn F., was born in 1959.
Ruby retired from Ore-Ida Foods after working there from 1962 to 1988. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in several callings. However, she often talked fondly about her Primary boys. Ruby loved her family and enjoyed sitting on the floor to play with her grand kids. She moved to the River Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in Twin Falls in 2002 where she resided until her death.
She is survived by her three sons, Victor Blair (Kathaleen) Braegger of Burley, Rocky F. Braegger of Nampa, and Lynn F. Braegger of Heyburn, her daughter, Jill (David) Hewlett of Denver, Colo.; 11 grandchildren;15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Agnes Galbraith of Portland, Ore., and Esther Lou (Dale) Armstrong of Idaho Falls; and one brother, Larry (Viola) Fisher of Pittsburgh, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Victor Braegger, who died on Nov. 12, 1991; two daughters-in-law, Corinne Braegger and Annette Braegger; one granddaughter, Pennie Jo Braegger; three brothers; and two sisters.
Our family expresses sincere appreciation to the healthcare workers at River Ridge for their long years of love and care for Ruby. We also wish to thank Hospice Visions and especially Michelle for their loving care.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July11, at the Star LDS Church, 100 S. 200 W., of Burley, with Bishop Chris Seibold officiating. Burial will be in the Rupert Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the church.
