Rose Warner Thornton

DECLO – Rose Warner Thornton returned to her Heavenly Father and her cherished husband on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018, at the age of 90 at her home in Declo, Idaho.

She was born Aug. 28, 1928, to Melvin Orrin Warner and Drusilla Arvilla Prescott. She was the sixth child and fifth girl of 11 siblings. She graduated from Heyburn High School and became a telephone operator. She married Harvey Lon Thornton on Aug. 22, 1947, in the Salt Lake Temple. They had six children, Dennis, Nadine, Nathan, Virginia, Robert and James (stillborn). They owned a trucking business for more than 25 years. She lived in the same house for over 70 years. She did have a house fire in 2004 which destroyed the original house but it was rebuilt on the same lot.

In 1979, at the age of 54, Harvey was killed in a tragic car wreck by a drunk driver. As a widow for over 39 years, she kept herself busy crocheting afghans, doilies, and two beautiful 4’x 6’ last supper tapestries. She also gardened and canned until she couldn’t. She always loved to read. For 12 years she walked six laps around the gym with her devoted friend, Julie Bott.

She was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in the Burley Genealogical Society for many years, collected and organized yearly obituaries for over 35 years for the Min-Cassia area, and was a member and officer of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She served as a senior companion for seniors for more than 12 years. She always kept herself busy canning and doing genealogy. Her favorite church calling was as the sacrament meeting greeter for over the last five years where she shared her warm smile and her love for her community.

She is survived by her children, Dennis (Marge) of Sandy, Utah, Nadine Andersen (Norman) of South Jordan, Utah, Nathan (Colleen) of Bellingham, Wash., Virginia of Logan, Utah, and Robert of Declo; three sisters, Margaret Clark, Cleo Poulton, and Una Grant (Glen); one brother, Chet Warner; and numerous nieces and nephews. She has 27 grandchildren; 73 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one child, James; her parents; three sisters; three brothers; and two grandsons, Christopher and Harvey Napper.

The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Declo Stake Center, 213 W. Main St., with Bishop Wayne Hurst officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Friday, preceding the funeral at the church.
