Patrick J. Murphy

Patrick J Murphy died peacefully at Minidoka Memorial Hospital on Sunday March 3rd, 2024, one day shy of his 83rd Birthday. Patrick was born March 4th 1941 in Blackfoot, Idaho to Jacob Murphy and Joey Blanche Ellis, he was the eldest of three children. Pat grew up in Blackfoot and later moved to the Sun Valley and Ketchum area, before moving to Southern Idaho. He was residing in Rupert, Idaho at the time of his death.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents Jacob Murphy and Joey Blanche Ellis, his 2nd born child Patrick K Murphy, his brother William (Bill) Murphy, Father-in-law Tom Kenley, Mother-in-law Dorothy Wilkinson Kenley, and other beloved Aunts, Uncles, and cousins.

Pat is survived by his amazing wife of 62 years, Carolyn Kenley Murphy, daughters Carol (Chris) Hellwig of Nampa, Idaho, Christine Ward of Declo, Idaho, and son Tom (Heather) Murphy of Rupert, Idaho, seven grandsons, six granddaughters, seven great grandsons, three great granddaughters, eight nephews, and five nieces.

Pat Murphy was a man of great charisma, and a friend to everyone he met or worked with. Pat was known for telling stories, mostly true, with a lot of levity and humor. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was a favorite of the grandchildren, taking most of them on their first fishing or hunting trip, teaching them to drive on the desert or in the mountains, and teasing them till they ran for cover.

Pat made his mark in Idaho, completing many large construction projects, mostly in excavation and installation of municipal water and sewer systems, roads, bridges and other significant site work. He owned his own company, Shamrock Excavation, and was proud of the work he did on Bald Mountain in Sun Valley expanding and clearing ski runs on Seatle Ridge, River Run, College, and several other runs in the early 1970’s. After moving to Southern Idaho, he continued improving the Mini-Cassia area as an Estimator for Hoffco, until he retired at the age of 73.

Pat was an avid hunter and fisherman, catching the trout of a lifetime out of the Richfield Canal at 9 lbs, and harvesting a large Mule Deer on the Carey Desert. He loved reloading ammunition, tying flies, and archery shooting as hobbies. He loved the outdoors and would explore the mountains and deserts in a 4x4, going places no man should take 4 wheeled rigs.

The family would like to thank Minidoka Memorial Hospital and Clinic for their loving care of Pat during his last few days on this earth. The Nursing Staff, Nurse Aides, and Physicians cared for him with kindness and compassion.

Pat also appreciated the care and attention he received from his home health nursing, aides, and therapists over the last couple of years.
