BURLEY – Maxine Hunt Engstrom died on Nov. 9, 2013, at her home after a long and satisfying life. Maxine was 98-years-old.
Maxine was born in Albion, Idaho, the first child of Emma and Earl Hunt. She had four sisters and two brothers, Exie Lyford, Helen Metro, Janie Romans, Don Hunt, Dick Hunt and Shirley Estep. She attended schools in the Minidoka area and graduated from Rupert High School over 80 years ago.
While working in Paul, she met and then married Gus Engstrom. They had three children, Jackie, Galen, and Anita.
She was from true farming heritage. She helped her family when younger as they struggled during the lean years of her early teens. She was a helpmate to her husband when they owned and worked a small farm in Declo. Later, she worked in retail fashion and footwear. There were never any tasks that were either too big or too dirty for her to perform. Her more recent years were spent as a homemaker.
For the past 22 years she has shared a residency with her youngest daughter and family. Maxine enjoyed a variety of hobbies such as gardening, oil painting, creating cards, needlepoint and painting bird houses. Maxine could bake bread that was a favorite with family and friends. She adored Christmas and family reunions.
Maxine is survived by one sister, Shirley Estep of Reno, Nev.; one daughter, Anita (Tom) Jones of Burley; seven grandchildren, Penny Bryan of Boise, Joe (Shelli) Adams of Heyburn, Matt (Amy) Kramer of Fort Collins, Colo., TJ Jones (Toni) of Boise, Elise (Dan) McGillis of Ottawa, Canada, Leighton (Pam) Jones of Paul, and Brian Cummings of Burley; 19 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
