Mary Hepworth Walton, 93, of Jackson, Idaho passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on Sunday, February 22, 2026.
She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on November 27th, 1932, to William Grant Hepworth and Alice Mann, the second of six children. She grew up on farms in Woods Cross, Utah, Parma, Idaho and Ontario, Oregon where she learned the value of hard work.
In 1952 she attended Nursing School at University of Utah, and met the love of her life, a 1950 Chrysler; Daniel Charles Walton happened to come with it. On February 27th, 1953, she married Dan and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on February 19th, 1954. Mary’s father convinced them to move to Ontario and become farmers, so that’s what they did. Dan and Mary truly became one. They worked side by side building a family and farm. Dan said, “If it weren’t for the sacrifices of Mary and her sister Janet, we wouldn’t be where we are today.” Some of her many talents included moving pipe, driving truck, dipping handmade chocolates and making her famous cherry ice cream.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many church callings, including her and Dan serving a mission in Adam-ondi-Ahman, Missouri.
Mary was a woman of faith and principle. She demonstrated this in the way she lived her life. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Jesus Christ and His restored gospel, America and the virtuous principles fought for.
She is survived by Daniel C. Walton, her husband of 73 years, and three daughters. Maureen (Rus) Howard, Michelle Barras, Sharon (Mark) Sanderson, and siblings Janet Bramhall, Alan Hepworth, Bill (Bonnie) Hepworth, Wayne (Linda) Hepworth, 31 Grandchildren and multiple Great Grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by, her parents William Grant Hepworth and Alice Mann Hepworth, 3 of her children Karen, Gary and Grant Walton and brother Ronald Hepworth.
The family would like to personally thank all the staff from Horizon Home Health and Hospice, with a special thank you to Sandee Haynes, for the months of loving care and kindness they provided to Mary.
