Lynda Dockstader

A compassionate, caring and empathetic soul whose radiant beauty could light up a room, Lynda Anderson Dockstader passed away on October 17, 2022.

Born on November 8, 1945, to Wayne Frederick Anderson and Carma Erickson Anderson, Lynda was the second of five children and always took care of her younger siblings. Born a twin, her brother Lynn was stillborn, leaving Lynda forever feeling like a part of her was missing.

Raised on a farm in the Cache Valley of Utah (followed by Rupert, ID), Lynda’s childhood was incredibly precious to her. She cherished the serenity and beauty of her hometown for the rest of her life, even keeping a special painting of a family home nestled below the mountain ranges of Cache County with her long after she moved to Texas in 2019.

She started her education at Lincoln Elementary School (in Cache Valley) followed by Acequia Elementary School and Minidoka County High School (in Rupert, ID). At the age of eight she was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Lynda grew into a graceful and elegant young woman with kind eyes and a bright smile. People would gravitate towards her and her calm presence and warm voice. Though she was perpetually serene, she had a quick wit and a marvelous sense of humor.

She married Dennis “Denny” Dockstader on January 3, 1964, when she was 18 and Dennis was 19. Their union produced two children: Kim J. Dockstader, born August 15, 1964; and Gary Dean Dockstader, born October 22, 1966.

A wonderful friend, a doting mother and a loving wife, Lynda was a sentimental soul who always had time for in-depth conversations and quality time with those she loved. She was beautiful, and while she took a long time to get ready — everyone agreed it was well worth it (regardless of her notorious late arrivals). Despite her obvious beauty she was incredibly humble, and the first to see the beauty in others.

A bibliophile, she enjoyed sharing her passion for the written word with her many friends. They remember bowling leagues, playing cards and board games together. Lynda also loved having her camera in hand, snapping photos, particularly of loved ones during special occasions. Gardening was another of her passions, and her flowerpots were known throughout the neighborhood.

Dogs were another of Lynda’s loves, and she and Denny had many throughout the years: Buster, Cocoa and Bella, to name a few. Bella, a King Charles Spaniel, was so beloved that Lynda requested her ashes be interred with her. She was also fond of cats (despite an allergy).

Lynda was always there for her family, and adored her grandchildren. They loved her cinnamon rolls, waffles and lemon drops — and more than that, the time they spent together camping, laughing and talking.

Lynda was predeceased by her parents, Carma Erickson Anderson and Wayne F. Anderson; her husband, Dennis Dockstader and her brother Clair Wayne Anderson.

She is survived by her sons, Kim Dockstader and Gary Dean Dockstader; her grandchildren Chelsea Lynn Dockstader Richter, Matthew Dean Dockstader, Amy Beth Dockstader, Makenna Dawn Dockstader, Emma Jane Dockstader and Ava Rose Dockstader; and her siblings Sharen Anderson Stoker, Patricia “Patty” Anderson Manning and Kathy Anderson Dayton.

Lynda’s soft, sweet nature, kind heart and inherent grace will be perpetually missed by those she leaves behind.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Hansen Mortuary in Rupert, Idaho. Viewing for family and friends will be held for one hour prior to the services at the Mortuary. Services will conclude with burial in the Rupert Cemetery, together with a belated interment service for her husband, Dennis Dockstader, who passed unexpectedly on August 6, 2019. Family and friends are invited to gather to share prayer, eulogies, and remembrances under the direction of Hansen Mortuary.
