Juneal Marie Quast

TWIN FALLS - Juneal Marie Quast, longtime resident of Burley, Idaho, died at her home in Twin Falls from kidney disease on December 23, 2017, surrounded by her family. She was 77.

Juneal was born November 5, 1940, in Rupert, Idaho, to Fred and Emma Kowitz. She was the third of six children. Her family moved to a small family farm north of Declo when she was four years old. She had fond memories of her four sisters and one brother. She spoke often of her school years and the friends she made, many of them still close some 70 years later.

She married Walter Fred Quast, Jr. on November 9, 1957, at the Odd Fellows Lodge in Burley. They were sealed in the Ogden Temple and celebrated 58 years of marriage before his passing nearly two years ago. They spent the early years of their marriage farming in the View area before moving to Portland, Ore. for a year. They then returned to Burley and began their family.

In 1964 they moved south of Burley to the Farmer’s Corner neighborhood where they reared their four children, Tamara, Todd, Tricia and Travis. She took great pride in creating a home for her family to grow up in and come back to visit. She particularly loved growing many different varieties of flowers and roses in her immaculate yard. Family was very important to mom and she loved having monthly family dinners, grandkid visits and spending holidays together. Anybody who visited their home in December knows how much mom loved Christmas.

Juneal drove school bus for the Cassia County School Dist. for 31 years. She drove thousands of school children to school and kindergarten and loved being around the kids. In her younger years she was active in a local service sorority. She was a member of the LDS church where she held many callings.

Juneal is survived by her four children, Tamara (Jim) Janak, Twin Falls, Todd (Teresa) Quast, Burley, Trish (Rick) Stansell and Travis (LaNae) Quast of Twin Falls. She was proud of and loved her 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was looking forward to the addition of two more great-grandchildren this spring. She is also survived by her sisters Delores (Norman) Smyer, Doreen Leonard, Jolene (Joel) Johnstun, Lynette (Craig) Brackenbury and her brother Chuck (Arlene) Kowitz. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 28th at 11 am at the Unity LDS Church, 275 S. 250 E., Burley, with Bishop Todd Ames of the Eastbrooke Ward presiding. A viewing will be held Wednesday, December 27th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St. in Burley and from 10 to 10:45 am at the church prior to the funeral services. Burial will be in the View Cemetery.

Our family would like to express appreciation to the many doctors who cared for mom and especially to the wonderful team at Visions Hospice who so lovingly cared for her in her final days.
