Jimmy L. Winder, 78, was born February 16, 1938 in Wendell, ID to Lorin and Reta Winder. Growing up, his family lived in various places, such as Hungry Horse, MT, Eden and Jerome, ID as his father worked different construction jobs and farmed. He graduated from Jerome High School and studied Geology at Ricks College. He later enjoyed community education classes in Photography and Painting. While in high school, he met the love of his life, LuJuana Rae Harris, whom he later married on December 21, 1959. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the LDS Manti Temple in 1968. Together, they raised 6 wonderful children, Terri (Mark) Sherman, Sterling (Patty) Winder, Wayne (Susie) Winder, Shanna (Troy) Pearce, RuthAnne (Tom) Carr, and Reuben (Heather) Winder. Jim and LuJuana initially made their home in Jerome, then, in 1963, they built a small cabin along the Snake River in Ashton, ID. In 1967 they moved to Burley, which was followed 3 years later by a move to Rupert where they have lived ever since. While still in high school, Jim joined the Army Reserves, where he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant before his discharge after 6 years of service. As a member of the LDS church, Jim served in various positions, but he enjoyed the scouting program the most. Jim was very inventive and could fabricate anything he imagined. He loved to cook Dutch oven and he made his own ovens in which he cooked amazing meals for many crowds over the years. Other interests included writing stories, hunting, ice fishing, reading, outdoor survival and working in his shop. By trade, Jim worked most of his life as a contractor and built many homes in the MiniCassia area.
Jim passed away peacefully at his home Thursday, June 30, 2016 following an extended illness. Jim is survived by his wife and all 6 of his children, 22 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and his brother, Gary Winder. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lorin and Reta Winder.
