PAUL – Janet Balling Kloepfer, an 88-year-old resident of Paul, passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at Pomerelle Place in Burley.
Janet was born August 22, 1938, in Moab, Utah, while her parents, Harold Christen and Hazel Areta Phelphs Balling, were on vacation. Their family home was in Logan, Utah, where Janet was raised. She attended Logan High School and, after school and during the summers, she worked at the family-owned Balling Motel and Café in Logan. She helped clean motel rooms and worked as a waitress in the café. It was while working there that she caught the eye of her future husband, Frederick Paul Kloepfer.
Janet and Fred were married in the Logan Utah Temple on August 10, 1955. Their first home was in Burley, and a year later they moved to Paul, where Fred had established his business, Kloepfer Concrete.
Janet and Fred were blessed with seven children, Susan (Michael) Barclay, Karl (Nadine) Kloepfer, Judy (Martin) Barclay, Dixie (Darian) Van Gorkum, John (Suzanne) Kloepfer, Paul Kloepfer (deceased), and Larry (Holly) Kloepfer. Family was at the center of Janet’s life. She was happiest when surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and extended family. She took great pride in her family and their accomplishments and loved watching them participate in musical, sporting, and other events.
Janet believed that if something was worth doing, it was worth doing your absolute best. She carried that belief into every part of her life. She was hardworking, dedicated, compassionate, and always willing to serve. She loved playing volleyball and especially enjoyed cards and board games with her family. She had a competitive spirit and loved the fun, laughter, and togetherness that came from being with those she loved.
Some of Janet’s most treasured traditions centered around bringing her family together. Every Thanksgiving, the family would gather at the church for a day filled with plenty of food, volleyball, games, and laughter. The children would put on plays, creating memories enjoyed by multiple generations. At Christmas time, Janet’s family would gather for their annual caroling tradition. The group often included all of her posterity. They would sing carols and deliver gift baskets to families throughout the community. These traditions reflected Janet’s love of family and her desire to teach and live the importance of serving others.
Janet had a natural ability and love for playing the piano. She began taking lessons in grade school and spent many hours practicing. When she and Fred moved to Idaho, the small congregation they attended needed an organist. Without any formal instruction, Janet taught herself to play the organ. Her perseverance and dedication led to her being called as the ward organist for more than 60 years and as stake organist for several years. She accompanied many soloists, choirs, and vocal groups and was asked to play for many funerals throughout the Mini-Cassia area. Her love of music was shared with her children.
Janet was a devout follower of Jesus Christ and a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint. She served in the Paul First Ward as Relief Society president, compassionate service leader, and secretary in the Young Women. Her compassionate heart and willingness to serve touched many lives.
At the time of her passing, Janet and Fred had 37 grandchildren, 92 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Paul Kloepfer; son, Paul Harold Kloepfer; granddaughter, Alisa Joy Kloepfer; parents, Harold and Hazel Balling; and brother, Jack Balling.
In addition to her children and grandchildren, she is survived by her three siblings, Dixie Clark, NaDean McBride, and Robert Balling.
Janet’s greatest legacy will be the family she loved so deeply and the traditions she created to keep them close. Her example of faith, hard work, service, and love will continue through the many generations of her family.
The family would like to thank the staff at Pomerelle Place for all the love and care they have given to their mother.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 2, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Paul Idaho Stake Center, located at 424 W. Ellis St., in Paul, with Bishop Juan M. Perez officiating. Burial will follow at Paul Cemetery.
