BURLEY – Dorothy Mae Peck Beazer, a 92-year-old resident of Burley, and a former longtime resident of Rupert, passed away Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019, at Highland Estates Assisted Living in Burley.
Dorothy was born Feb. 12, 1927, in Pocatello, Idaho, to George and Mae Fifield Peck. She was the oldest of nine children and was taught at a young age to work hard; a trait she carried throughout her life. She became her father’s favorite farm hand - mostly by her choice. She could plow and run a hay derrick with a team of horses along with the best of them. At the age of 21, her father volunteered her to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While serving in the Texas/Louisiana Mission, she met and later married her eternal companion, Parl Beazer, who was also serving in the same mission. They were married in the Logan Utah Temple in 1951 while Parl was serving in the United States Army.
In 1952, Kristi joined their family while they were living in Syracuse, Utah. Dorothy and Parl were able to realize their shared dream in 1957 when they drew a homestead north of Rupert. After much frustration, their home was opened to foster children and they took in children from relatives. They later were joined by Sherrie and Hugh and much later Curtis and Jay.
Throughout her life she served in many church callings and taught many in the community to quilt and sew. If you graduated or were married in Rupert or Burley and have towels with your name monogrammed on them, they probably came from Dorothy.
Surviving siblings are Zelma Adams, Rulon Peck (Janet), Leora Rogers (Wayne), Clarence Peck (LaRie), and Janiel Howell (Les); and sister in-law, Connie Peck. She is also survived by her children, Kristi Zollinger, Sherrie Sawyer (Keven Patton), Curtis Beazer (Kimberly), and Jay Beazer (Taunya); 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Parl; son, Hugh; brothers, Robert Peck, Gilbert Peck, and Jay Peck; and a brother in-law, Robert Adams.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Burley Stake Center, 2050 Normal Ave., with Bishop Brent D. Greener officiating. Burial will follow at Rupert Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and at the church on Saturday, from 1 until 1:45 p.m.
