PAUL – Dennis William Zemke was taken to his eternal home and reunited with his soulmate, on Monday July, 25, 2016.
Dennis was born in Rupert, Idaho, April 27, 1950, the third son of seven children born to Forrest and Naoma Zemke. He grew up in Burley and graduated from Burley High School, the class of 1968. Growing up, Dennis enjoyed many activities with his family, which included hunting, fishing and working on the farm. After graduation, Dennis attended the University of Idaho, graduating in 1973 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in secondary education in math, chemistry, and physics.
On November 9, 1975, he married Katherine (Kay) Henderson, in Elko, Nevada. He worked at the J.R. Simplot Co. for 20 years, he transferred to Advanced Welding Technology, Idaho Metal Fabrication, and then to Idaho Equipment & Sheet Metal, where he retired.
He was an excellent metal fabricator and welder. While he did not pursue teaching in a school setting, he enjoyed using math and science in this field and teaching others about metal fabrication. He was also available as a tutor to many math students over the years. Dennis spent many hours with family teaching his daughters all about hunting, fishing, and camping. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and listening to the newest baby, Leah, “talk” to him. He also was an active member of the Rupert Elks and served as past Exalted Ruler.
He is survived by his two children, Heidi (Tad) Thornton of Lewiston, Idaho, and Erin (Scott) McKindree of Coolin, Idaho; three grandchildren, Dallan Thornton, Madeline Thornton, and Leah McKindree; his mother, Naoma Zemke; brothers, Ron (Demarice) Zemke, Mike (Teena) Zemke; sister, Peggy (Steve) Gulbranson; and sister-in-law, Mary Anne Zemke; as well as many nieces and nephews.
