OAKLEY – Dallan Clarence Elquist, 89, of Oakley, was called back to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016, at the Cassia Regional Medical Center in Burley, with family members by his side.
Dallan was born Aug. 6, 1926, in Oakley, Idaho, to the late Clarence (Pop) and Bertha Elquist. He married his sweetheart, Norma Jean McFarland, on April 28, 1962.
Dallan served in the United States Navy during WWII, and following his military service, he worked on the family “Trout Creek” ranch, where he learned the value of hard work. In time, he carried the value of hard work that he had learned in his youth into his own career of ranching and farming in the Oakley community. The establishment of Elquist Ranches allowed him to continue the lifestyle he had grown to love.
Dallan gave a lifetime of service to his community and his church, including an LDS mission served with his wife, Norma, in Columbia, SC. He also served on the Cassia County Fairboard, the Oakley Highway District, and several church leadership positions in Oakley, including member of the bishopric, bishop, Young Mens leader, stake high councilor, and counselor in the Oakley Stake Presidency. Furthermore, he was an avid, lifetime promoter of Scouting and very proud of his Silver Beaver Award.
Dallan had a sincere, genuine love for all people. He has been a good influence to a countless number of people.
He is survived by his wife, Norma; five daughters, Connie (Roger) Holbrook, Carol (Craig) Hansen, Lorri (Lloyd) Watson, Jody (Ron) Deland, and Tari (Jeff) Keetch; three sons, Joel (Annalee) Elquist, Sander (Sandra) Elquist, and Cole (Judy) Elquist; 28 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 7, at the Oakley LDS Stake Center, 355 N. Center Ave., in Oakley with Bishop Jim Cooper officiating. Burial will be in the Oakley Cemetery with military rites provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans organization and the Albion American Legion.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday, March 6, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Monday at the church.
