Dale Pierce Grimm

Dale Pierce Grimm, of Rupert, returned with honor to his Heavenly Father, Tuesday, May 25, 2021. Born in Ogden, Utah, he is the third child of Lyle Ronald and Mary Gayle Grimm. Raised in Havre, Montana, Dale moved with his family to Paul, Idaho his senior year of high school. He learned mechanics, engineering, the value of living within your means, and always putting in an honest days’ labor from his beloved father, Lyle. His mother, Gayle, taught him to love cooking, canning, quilting, making jam & fudge and gardening. Throughout his life, Dale and his brother Kyle shared a passion for modifying car engines, blasting off Estes rockets, collecting and shooting guns-Dale’s moto, with a smirk and a wink: “the faster, the louder, the better - That’s life in the fast lane!” Dale had a sharp mind and skillset for numbers and all types of math and valued helping others with their taxes, finances, a skill he shared with is sister Tamra; but nothing thrilled him more at the tables than outsmarting the Blackjack dealers. Christmas was a favored time of year to bake and make treat plates, secretly trying to out-do his sister, Kathy. He shared the same “gypsy feet” for travel and adventure as his sister Marita.

After graduating Minico High School, Dale began working for the Amalgamated Sugar Company and continued to do so loyally for the next forty years. He was known as a hard worker, an efficient problem-solver, and a beloved leader. Dale was proud to be “Top of his Class” at Sugar School and liked attending college courses to improve his expertise. He has held nearly every processing position available and was awarded the Veteran Employee Service Award from the Sugar Beet Industry of America. His favorite part of shift work was the occasional potlucks and those many friends he worked side by side with day in and day out. Rumor has it, there are very few who know more about the Paul Sugar Factory than the legendary Dale Grimm. Even at home, the inside joke around the house was the never-ending radio call “Dale Grimm, where you at?”

Dale accomplished many things throughout his life, but the highlight was marrying his wife Becky, whom he loved, supported, and served unconditionally; along with raising their 6 children together. Becky was his “Always and Forever”, his sweetheart, and the love of his life. He was faithful and supportive to her in all things. Dale loved Becky and his family dearly and would do anything for them. He was his sons’ best friend & coach, his daughters’ protector, and their own personal knight in shining armor. He was their first call when they needed rescuing, and he’d come running with grandpa’s car trailer, a drill in one hand and zip-ties in the other. He put his family first and his own needs second. Near or far, they meant the world to him, and he prayed for each one daily. He was his children’s and grandchildren’s biggest fan, and he supported them in every way he could. Dale took great pride in teaching his children to be honest, kind, hardworking, self-sufficient members of the community. But mostly, he enjoyed teaching them about the simple, pure things in life.

Along with his family, Dale’s next love was the great outdoors, especially the mountains. He was an avid bass and salmon fisherman and an accomplished hunter. He liked to compete in bass tournaments, and skeet shooting events. Every fall he answered the call of the wild and rejuvenated his soul by working as an elk hunting guide for Hamilton Outfitters. On these treks, one of his favorite personal moments was watching the sun rise over the mountains and saddling horses in the quiet, crisp mountain air, stopping to kneel in prayer in wooded hideaways to connect with his Heavenly Father. Dale enjoyed a well-made campfire and spending time with his hunting buddies & family telling endless stories of amazing adventures, while cooking over the coals and looking at the stars.

He loved building log furniture. “Shiver Me Timbers” was the business he shaped that allowed him to express his own personal style and creativity. Working with his own hands pealing and sanding to form beautiful pieces of furniture with a specific person in mind with each stroke of a tool.

As High Priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dale loved to serve. He treasured Family history work, attending the temple, and had a humble and gentle testimony. Dale and Becky made a commitment to each other at the beginning of their marriage to attend the temple “as a date” at least once per month, and as often as time permitted. A goal and guide they instilled in their children starting with being sealed as a forever family on June 5, 1989, in the Salt Lake Temple. At least one day of every family vacation was dedicated to attending a new temple as a family and as a couple. The focus of Dale and Becky’s last “spring vacation” was attending as many temples as possible in a weeks’ time, across Idaho, Utah, and Nevada, managing 2 per day some days. Dale lived his life to be found worthy and prepared to use the priesthood to serve others at a moment’s notice. He exemplified a meek and mild character of kindness and Charity.

Dale spent several decades working in the scouting program with the young men and boys. He loved camping trips, teaching them how to fish, tie knots and how to become noble men. Dale was honored with earning pins for mentoring over 33 Scouts and helping them to achieve their Eagle Scout rank. As a scouter himself, Dale received the Award of Merit, spent several years as Cub Scout Day Camp Director and Commissioner, and earned the Scouting Couple of the Year with his wife Becky. The candy cannon and the Tootsie-Ta were his favorite moments bringing smiles and laughs to everyone’s faces. His most memorable adventure will always be massive “bon fire” with Rex & rafting down the Middle Fork.

Dale loved coaching little league baseball and learning how to be a better coach himself at track meets, soccer, and even science projects– whenever a new skill was needed, he jumped at the opportunity to better himself and share his knowledge with others.

Dale could almost always be found sporting a plaid collared shirt, blue jeans, a baseball cap, and either work boots or hiking boots. He loved steak, cranberry saucy, mashed potatoes and gravy, brownies and ice cream with caramel sauce, all sitting next to his favorite drink, Mt. Dew. He could make friends with anyone and loved to laugh. He was a competitive board game player, driver, loved racing cars, and fast roller coasters. His hidden talent was dancing with Becky and his daughters and singing with Mitchel.

Dale will leave behind a legacy of strength, patience, service, loyalty, compassion, and love. He is survived by his wife Becky, their six children: Charmaine, Brian and daughter-in law Lindsay, Autumn, Melanie, Tiffanie, and Mitchel and daughter-in law Jennica, his father Lyle, and ten grandchildren: Carson, Benjamin, Jacob, Zachary, Eva, Lilly, Aurora, Ely, Boe, and Mya.

He was preceded in death his daughter Savannah and by his mother, Gayle.

The Grimm family would like to express their gratitude to the friends, co-workers, care givers, and family for their love, support, and for giving selfless service at the exact moments it was needed.

We have been richly blessed by the abundant miracles and tender mercies of our Father in Heaven & Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
