Cleo Thompson

BURLEY – Cleo B. Thompson, the 93-year-old loving mother of Judy (Jim) Blacker, Beverly (Ernie) Schurig, and Kevin (Donalee) Thompson, was reunited with her eternal companion, Reed B. Thompson; daughters, Janean Jensen, and Ellen Thompson; granddaughter, Heidi Thompson; great-grandson, James Hansen Jr.; sister, Laurene Griffith; brothers, Mazel, Wayne, Vernal, and Don; and her parents.

Cleo was born Feb. 13, 1925, to Alma Henry and Myrtle Danielson Bowden, in Brigham City, Utah. She was raised in Cornish, Utah. Her family moved to Dayton, Idaho during her high school years. She graduated salutatorian of her class and was the drum majorette of the band. She married Reed B. Thompson July 26, 1946, for time and all eternity in the Logan Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Cleo and Reed moved to Preston, Idaho, and then to Weston, Idaho to operate the family farm. Their first child, Judy Kay, was born on Mother’s Day of 1947; Janean in July of 1949; Beverly in May of 1952; and their one-and-only son, Kevin Reed, was the New Year’s Baby in January of 1955. In 1957, Reed drew a homestead and the family moved to Paul, Idaho. In May of 1959, Ellen was born, which completed the family. In 1964, the family relocated to Mesa, Arizona. Reed passed away in February of 1979, and thereafter, Cleo served a mission for the Church in Rochester, New York in 1981.

Cleo was very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as Relief Society President, Music Chorister, Young Women leader, and many other callings. She also served in the Mesa Arizona Temple. She moved to Oregon to be near Beverly, Kevin, Ellen, and their families. While there, she also served in the Portland Oregon Temple. In May of 2002, she moved to Burley to be near Jim and Judy’s family. We all loved having her here.

She loved dancing with her sweetheart; music and playing the organ; sewing dresses and outfits for her four daughters; and spending time with her family and friends. She was an excellent homemaker and a fantastic cook.

Cleo faced many obstacles with a positive attitude. She had many friends and was cherished and loved by all who knew her. We love you, Mom.

Cleo is survived by her baby sister, Clara (Calvin) Johnson; 18 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and many friends.
