PAUL - Clarence Franklin Jacobs Jr., age 70, of Paul, died Thursday, July 3, 2014, at his home. He was better known as Jake.
Clarence was born on July 23, 1943, in Brunswick, Md., to Clarence Franklin Jacobs Sr. and Zella Elizabeth Swope. He was married on Oct. 27, 1962, in Junction City, Kan., to Julia Bourquin from American Falls, Idaho, after they met on the train and he fell in love with her hair.
He lived in Brunswick, Md., until he entered the Army in 1961, then he lived in Junction City, Kan., until he was discharged from the Army. Much of his middle life was in Baldwin Park, Calif., where the family lived for 25 years until 1990, when he moved to Paul, Idaho.
He was never active in a church, but he believed in God. He served three years in the United States Army, and was stationed in Germany for 7 months. He arrived back just in time for his first son to be born.
He had numerous jobs over the years and worked hard to provide for his family. He worked many years for Vemco in Pasadena, Calif., as the night supervisor of drafting and blueprint copying. He worked at gas stations, as a mechanic, and at a concrete company. With his wife, they owned businesses including appliance repair and an auto parts distribution service. He retired from Minidoka County School District where he worked doing maintenance and custodial work.
He liked family get-togethers, travel, and had visited almost every state. He enjoyed working on cars. He enjoyed watching NASCAR races, fishing, boating, golfing, camping, shooting, riding dune buggies, and motorcycle riding, but he especially loved anything that involved being with the family.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Julia; four sons, Clarence of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Rodney (Dawn) of Oregon City, Ore., Kenneth (Candace) of American Falls, Idaho, and Robert (Brandi) of Pocatello, Idaho; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Helen (Kenny) Moore of Thurmont, Md., Eleanor Naille of Tuscarora, Md., and Doris (Larry) Claggett of Frederick, Md. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Davey.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, at the Mountain View Christian Center, 317 W. 27th St., in Burley, with Pastor Jim Powell officiating. Burial will be in the Paul Cemetery with military rites provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Organization.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
