BURLEY - Caroline Elizabeth “Kelly” Elliott, our beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, passed away early Saturday morning, Nov. 29, 2014, at Bridgeview Estates in Twin Falls with her daughter, Shirley, at her side. She was 96-years-old.
She was born to Emanuel Richard and Lydia Mae Brandt Richard on Sept. 11, 1918, in Olpe, Kansas. She was the 7th of eight children in the family. Her parents were very strict and religious. She moved to Aberdeen, Idaho, in 1937, when she married. They farmed and had four children - all born in the American Falls Hospital. She lived in Aberdeen, Pocatello, American Falls, and Malta, prior to moving to Burley in 1960.
Kelly officially met the love of her life, George R. Elliott, when she agreed to bowl on a mixed league with him. They were true soul mates. They “eloped” to Carson City, Nev., in August 1969. George spoiled her and she spoiled him. They both retired at age 65 and purchased a motor home. They traveled from the northern point of Alaska to the southern point of Mexico. They lived in Arizona for six months of each year. They had a beautiful home on the golf course. They were great at bowling and golfing and earned many awards.
Kelly was an excellent cook and housekeeper. She loved all crafts, especially knitting and crocheting. She especially loved and adored her grandchildren.
She is survived by her four children, Robert Hylton (Colleen) of Glendale, Ariz., Doris Kaye Drury of Murray, Utah, Florence Lane of Elko, Nev., and Shirley Stevens (Larry) of Kennewick, Washington. She has ten grandchildren plus great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Additionally, she is survived by George’s five nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her soul mate, George R. Elliott, who passed away on Jan. 3, 2014; her parents; her seven siblings, Ed, Chet, Irvin and Ralph Richard of Kansas, Carl and Willard Richard of Idaho, and her only sister, Elsie Zumbrunn of Kansas.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at the First Presbyterian Church, 2100 Burton Ave., in Burley, with Pastor John Ziulkowski officiating. Final rites with urn placement for Kelly and George will be at the Idaho Veterans Cemetery in Boise.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to the Burley First Presbyterian Church, 2100 Burton Ave., Burley, ID 83318.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Rasmussen Funeral Home of Burley.
